Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet (ultraviolet C or UV-C) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions. Presently UVC tubes are used in a variety of applications, such as food, air and water purification.

Dhanvanthri Engineers in collaboration with Autocoat Engineering has come up with a series of products based on UVC technology to sanitize our day to day residential as well as commercial items before we use or consume it as well as spaces. We achieve this with the right amount of exposure to UVC rays, based on the item being sanitized.

DNA of microbes Before & After UVC exposure

Once the groceries are home they are to be placed in the UVC sterilizing box for a specific time as given on the instruction manual. During this time the germicidal UVC lamps destroy the cell structure and characteristics of the microbes, including the deadly Corona Virus. The germicidal tubes inside the disinfectant box have wavelengths between about 200 nm and 300 nm. They are strongly absorbed by nucleic acids of the microorganisms thereby disturbing the DNA.

This germicidal UVC box works at different parameters for different objects depending on our microbiological tests. For instance Fruits and vegetables need to be sanitized in the UVC box for a shorter period while bags, purses, laptops or metal items need to be sanitized for longer periods as per our lab tested results.

The effectiveness of germicidal UVC depends on the length of time a microorganism is exposed to rays, the intensity and wavelength of the UV radiation, the presence of particles that can protect the microorganisms from UV and a microorganism’s ability to withstand UV during its exposure. Our UVC sanitization box consists of these germicidal UVC tubes with proper reflectivity in such a way that almost all sides of the groceries and other items can be exposed to the the UVC light effectively.

Our Ultraviolet sanitizing box is able to kill microbes such as bacteria, protozoa and viruses including the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) virus with a 99% disinfection rate.

The UVC sanitization box will not work if the top lid of the box is not closed properly to ensure that the user is not exposed to the UVC rays at any given time; thus making sure that no harm is caused.
